Quadernos

Collection of publications related to digital visual arts.

Colorimetry

Our first release is the Red notebook, about Colorimetry.

Colorimetry is a science applied in multiple fields, such as materials and food technology, lighting, and astronomical and biological studies, and it is also fundamental to the visual arts.
Knowing how to measure color makes it possible to identify chemical characteristics, assess quality and consistency in production processes, and standardize visual communication.
It integrates knowledge from cognitive sciences, physics, mathematics, and physiology, and relies experimentally on psychophysics.
Due to the breadth and complexity of its foundations, it is rarely included in school or academic curricula.
For this reason, this teaching material, unique in its kind, aims to introduce students of any level to a discipline that is seldom explored.

Multimedia educational materials

Escaping flatland

Augmented reality makes it possible to visualize three-dimensional graphs, which frees the book from a flat perspective that hinders the understanding of data with complex relationships.

Ideal for STEAM educational methodologies, which integrate the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics to promote active, interdisciplinary learning focused on solving real-world problems.

VAK

Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles.

The Quadernos cover the visual dimension, but their graphics represent the contents partially to sow curiosity and make the reader go to Karnal .

The app expands the visual dimension by increasing the size of the publication, while also adding the ability to reproduce written text orally, benefiting students who develop a more auditory learning style. Augmented reality, on the other hand, adds the kinesthetic experience, taking it to the maximum when using the app with mixed and virtual reality headsets, thereby addressing the third learning style.

Devices

Mobile phones and tablets are problematic technologies when combined with social media, causing distraction, harassment, cognitive impairment, and physical problems for students in the classroom.

This motivates many institutions to discourage their use in the classroom, which is challenged by concerns about personal freedom, privacy, and security, and even by arguing that the device positively assists students in taking notes, using it as an encyclopedia, translator, calculator, and other functions.

Karnal works on phones, tablets, and glasses exclusively as an educational tool, redefining the device's role as a bridge between the student and the learning process.

On the other hand, inequality in technological access is another issue that must be addressed, seeking collaborative alternatives between manufacturers and educational institutions to facilitate access to these technologies, especially for large devices such as tablets and glasses.

The advantages of using these devices include increased motivation to study, thanks to the dynamic interactivity with the educational material, and the personalized learning experience afforded by multimedia content, providing students with diverse sensory experiences and adapting to their own pace.

The Body of Knowledge

The dimensions of the Quadernos are square 21 x 21, with a 3 centimeter spine.

This thickness will allow for a spiral- based binding system to be covered, which will allow the pages to open completely without the reader having to hold them, thus improving augmented reality experiences.

Each edition will have a label attached to its back cover with a QR code printed on it to download Karnal and which also serves to validate the book, which will allow us to track the international distribution of each copy.

Its width will make the book stand out intentionally from any bookshelf, demanding attention so that people can play with it.

Due to its design, the complete edition of the seven Quadernos will form a cubic volume, and an acrylic container will be delivered upon completion of the collection, in such a way as to facilitate its display to the collector and integrate it as a decorative element in any environment.

The articles that comprise it add visual pauses in their design so that the reader takes the necessary time to understand each text, in addition to suggesting negative spaces where augmented reality experiences will take place.

The technical content explained in words in each article is accompanied by an artistic interpretation through our original illustrations, which enliven the reading journey through visual poetry.
